Join Jacqueline Chao, Senior Curator at the Crow Museum of Asian Art, and Nina Levent, co-founder and CEO of Sapar Contemporary, for a conversation and virtual walkthrough of Cultural Ecologies of Asia, currently on view at Dallas Art Fair Projects. Curated by Chao, the exhibition features new works by artists from from Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, and the United States and encourages exploration of the interrelationships between cultural and natural systems. The exhibition is presented by Sapar Contemporary in collaboration with Dallas Art Fair.

 

Jacqueline Chao, Ph.D., is Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas. Since joining the museum in 2016 as Curator of Asian Art, she has curated and organized over twenty exhibitions at the Museum. Her exhibitions have presented works ranging from the historical to the contemporary in all medias from emerging and established artists from across the globe. A specialist in Chinese and Buddhist art, she is a widely-published author and frequent lecturer on Asian Art. She previously taught Asian Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, was Director of Exhibitions and Residencies at Chicago Artists Coalition, and contributed research to the Chinese painting collection at the Art Institute of Chicago. She holds an MA and PhD in the History and Theory of Art from Arizona State University, and an Honors BA in Art History from the University of Toronto.

Nina Levent, Ph.D., is an art historian, a museum expert and the founding director of SAPAR Contemporary Gallery + Incubator. Dr. Levent’s curatorial and research interests include multisensory art, figurative representations in Western and Eastern cultures, as well as cross-disciplinary research on creativity and perception, cultural inclusion in contemporary art. She is deeply interested in the rich sensory heritage of Central Asia and Caucasus - a focus of Sapar Contemporary Incubator. Dr. Levent is an editor of The Multisensory Museum: Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives on Touch, Sound, Smell, Memory and Space (2011) and Food & Museum (2013) and written widely on museum-related topics, and trained museums globally. Levent has taught at the New York Art Academy, and worked at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She holds a Ph.D. from Humboldt University in Berlin and an MA from Moscow State University. When she does not travel to visit artists’ studio, she resides in New York.
